Be Your Own Skin Specialist!

Okay! So how many of you lovely ladies have a skin problem? Be it dark circles, sagging of skin, acne, black heads, white heads or anything at all? Out of you all, who has that perfectly smooth and amazing skin? Not many, let’s assume. How many of you would kill for a better skin?

Well, let’s begin by saying that skin quality can make or break an image, the exterior beauty of the person. So, maintenance of skin is actually important. We ladies spend so much money trying to find the perfect cosmetic cream or medicine or ointment just so we could improve our skin, which makes us feel better in the long run. We need to understand that our skin is supposed to be our asset. It is not to be played with. Skin is a sensitive layer of adipose tissue. We do not want to rub it, beat it, scratch it or even touch it with dirty hands. Then why are we open to applying chemicals on our skin? Don’t we understand that all these chemicals are harmful in the long run?

Nowadays, leading skin brands are producing ‘herbal products’. These are supposed to be made of natural things with minimum involvement of chemicals. We look at the ingredients and fall in the trap. We feel that since this XYZ product is herbal, it won’t have a bad impact on our skin. Why? Do you think its wise to trust a company’s products? Many a time, I have myself read in newspapers how some of the leading brands use lead or sulphate or some other equally dangerous chemical. In a world like today’s, do you think it is better to trust an unknown source or do you think you should take the ropes in your hands and be your own skin specialist?

I do not say that you should do whatever you feel like on your skin and think that what you’re doing is right. Reading about it does not hurt. In this article, I’m going to tell you ladies seven simple things you could do to improve your skin quality and skin tone. I hope reading this article will make you stop spending thousands of rupees on this billion dollar cosmetic industry.

1) Drink at least 4 litres of water everyday!

Oh yes! Make water your best friend. Water is known to be good for both your skin and also, weight loss. Dual benefit. Why would you say no to this?? You won’t, right? Water flushes out the toxins and rejuvenates the mind, body and soul.

2) Eat lots of green veggies!

Since this is summer time, I’d like to point out some summer green vegetables. These include beans, capsicum, bitter gourd, bottle gourd and cucumber. These vegetables really improve the skin! Leafy greens are full of vitamins, minerals, and disease-fighting phytochemicals. The vitamin E in green leafy vegetables works along with vitamin C and keeps the skin healthy as you age with time. This vitamin also helps protect your skin from the sun’s damaging rays and may help reduce your risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.

3) Don’t be lazy with your vitamins

Start acquainting yourself with Vitamin A, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin C. These vitamins are good for the skin. These are also found in the green vegetables but if you are not a green vegetables fan, I recommend that you start taking your daily vitamin supplements really seriously. This is the age where people really put in a lot of effort in taking care of their skin.

4) Home made face packs!

Doesn’t the title itself sound interesting?? A few simple things you can do in this summer heat is that you wash your face with cold milk whenever you come from outside. The cold milk is really helpful in beating that tan! For skin brightening, you can take the pulp of cucumber and papaya, and mix it with one teaspoon of oatmeal, curd and lemon juice. Keep it on your face and neck for half an hour and wash! Voila! Your skin just becomes so smooth. Apart from this, our grandmothers’ have always been telling us about besan and uptan. I think you should give those old cosmetic remedies a try as well!

5) Exercise and sweat it out!

Clean your pores. Sweat. Exercising should be your best friend if you want that glowing skin. When we exercise, we sweat and this helps in clearing the pores. This results in a major improvement in the skin. Also, when we exercise, our body releases endorphins. They are pleasure generating hormones. So, if you start exercising 5 days a week, you won’t just have a better skin but, a happier mind as well.

6) Wash your face with water after every hour

Washing is treating your face. It is no secret or science that washing the face makes it clean and gets the skin rid of all the dust and germs that have accumulated on the skin. The tip I give you here is that instead of rubbing the skin with a towel for drying it, just let the skin dry itself. This has a cooling effect on the skin. Also, when I say wash your face with water, I mean ONLY water. Do not use face washes or soaps more than twice a day, in summers.

7) Have lots of fruits

Let me start by saying that not all fruits are fattening. Some fruits like papaya, water melon, orange, pine apple, tomato- These are all good for maintaining weight and the skin! The key to a good skin is a good diet. You follow your eating plan seriously and 80% of your work is done. It is said that eating clean is the hard part but I feel that when you see such good results in just over 2 weeks, you won’t feel like cheating on your diet anyway.

8) Sleep

Do NOT compromise on your sleep. Ever. That’s it. I mean, THINK. Throughout the day, you are working on one thing or the other. Why would you want to deprive yourself of sleep? Sleep is necessary to repair worn out tissues and without proper sleep, you just cannot feel fresh the next morning. 6-8 hours of sleep is a must.

I hope you all follow these simple things and feel more comfortable and confident in your own skin!
