THE LOVE Chanel Nail Polish, $28
While recently visiting the National Portrait Gallery to see the Obamas’s world-changing portraits, I noticed Mrs. Obama was wearing purple nail polish in hers. Purple, the color of royalty, nobility, creativity, and wisdom, not only graces her nail beds in a historic portrait, but also happens to be my favorite color. I’ve loved the color purple my whole life. I painted my room different shades of purple and even dreamt of naming my future daughter Violet. Since then, I’ve set out on a personal mission to wear purple nail polish at all times. The Michelle Obama wears purple nail polish so I too must always wear purple nail polish.

Now, I must admit I’m a bit of a nail polish snob. I’ve tried them all and always have some sort of complaint: It chips easily; it’s not bright enough; it’s too bright; I have to apply a lot of coats. The list goes on and on. Then, I found Chanel’s long-wear polish, and it’s quickly become my go-to. The formula is deep, rich, and lasts for days. I never have to touch up or worry about chips. Also, a weird thing happens when I apply the polish: It almost looks blue, but dries purple, like a mood-changing polish of sorts. Michelle Obama, Chanel, and purple. Check, check, check. It’s the greatest nail polish of all-time. Oh, it is also similar to the Rihanna-approved Pantone color of the year, but that’s a story for another time and a longer post.
