Hip Hop
Hip Hop

“Hip-hop has done so much for racial relations, and I don’t think it’s given the proper credit. It has changed America immensely. I’m going to make a very bold statement: Hip-hop has done more than any leader, politician, or anyone to improve race relations.”- Jay Z

Sometimes a great song is all we need to knock off all the emotional clutter. When we need that inspiration to get back up, a great piece of music is the best thing to look out for. Music is therapy. It has inspired millions of people around the world. People with a great taste of music are often very smart. Here is a list of some great inspirational songs-

I Know I can- Nas

Nas is a legend in every sense. His story telling ability is simply amazing. His first album, Illmatic, is considered by many as the best hip hop album. He paints a picture with his words. But, this particular song keeps me motivated to work hard. It is so simple yet it gives a very powerful vibe. He makes it clear to the little kids that the habit of pimping around and smoking weed will spoil your life. Instead, work hard on your dreams and live a great life.

Juicy- The Notorious B.I.G.

Biggie is, without doubt, one of the greatest rappers of all time. His lyrics are dense and unique, yet his flow sounds so effort less and smooth. Although, he was known for his dark gangster story telling ability, Juicy is a very positive song. It tells about Biggie’s struggles and he knocked all the odds and became one of Hip Hop’s most prominent figures. It describes how he changed his life from, ‘negative to positive’. The song has a very catchy chorus and takes you back to the good old hip hop days.

Keep ya head up- Tupac Shakur

Tupac Shakur is a delight to listen. The level of emotion he could put down in a song is unbelievable. His songs make you feel the pains of the poor and unprivileged people. He was a good man. His music is a source of inspiration for millions of people across the world. This one songs made me cry, the first heard it. Beautiful and soulful lyrics. Tupac had a poetic way of rapping which distinguished him from other rapper. This one song makes us believe in the power of human emotions. Tupac’s songs have triggered millions of people to live a great life. One of hip hop’s most celebrated icons, Keep ya head up is a must listen Tupac Shakur song.

Forever Young- Jay Z

Jay Z is the master of flow. He can flow in any pace. This song depicts his dexterity in the art of rap. Forever Young is a celebration of life. Jay Z talks about abundance, he talks about dreams, he talks about the little pleasures in life. He makes you feel the lyrics. The song makes you feel good, it inspires you to live a great life. The chorus by Mr. Hudson is catchy and soothing. There’s something about this song which always elevates my mood. Jay Z has been in the game for about 19 years now. He is a legend n every sense. There is a lot of things we can learn from him.

Lose yourself- Eminem

One of the most inspirational songs, not only in hip hop, but in the all genres of music. This is the first ever hip hop oriented song to win an Oscar. The intensity od Eminem will make you jump out of your seats. 8 Mile is a great inspirational movie and every sound track from the movie is amazing. Lose yourself has revolutionized the genre of hip hop music. The words of Eminem fires down your belly and gives you an urge to do something big in life. I love this song for its power lyrics, inspirational message, strong piano rolls, and Eminem!

Get by- Talib Kweli

Lyrically, Talib Kweli is a master. He can paint a picture with his words. I consider him as one of the most under-rated rappers of all time. Unlike most rappers, this guy talks about social and political issues. His songs are a delight to listen to. Get By is one of my favorite songs of all time. He talks about giving up smoking and drinking and moving ahead in life. He talks about the hardships faced by the people in the ghetto. It was tough for a middle class black person to succeed in America, and this song has motivated millions of people to move ahead in life. The songs has some dope beats from Kanye West and the chorus ‘Just to get by’ is very catchy. In my opinion, this is the best song by Talib Kweli!
