DIY Honey Face Masks and Face Wash

Honey has been regarded as a natural skin care product since ancient civilizations. It can be used to treat cuts, burns, blemishes, spots, etc. It has amazing antioxidant and antiseptic properties. It is especially beneficial for acne prone skin types for it helps reduce the inflamed red spots and makes them less pronounced. It also helps make your skin smooth and brings out a natural glow to your face.
Honey consists of Vitamin B1, B2, B6, B3, C and Zinc. This makes it perfect for all skin types. Vitamin B3 and C help keep the skin moisturized and helps heal rashes and takes care of dry skin problems whereas vitamin B6 is necessary for new skin cells formation. Zinc is an essential agent to help reduce and slow down the ageing process.

A raw honey face mask is an easy do it yourself face pack that can be prepared at home without any hassles. There are different types of ingredients that can be missed with raw honey in order to prepare face masks for particular skin types and problems. These ingredients help add-on to the magical properties of raw honey.
A raw honey face mask can be used several times a week for period of 15-30 minutes. Different recipes for specific honey masks according to particular skin types and skin issues are listed below:

1)Honey face mask for acne-prone skin:
•Ingredients: ½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon lemon juice
3 teaspoons raw honey

Mix all the ingredients well. Make sure you add only ½ a teaspoon of lemon juice or else you will experience a burning sensation. Wash your hands and with clean fingers, apply this paste to your face evenly. Apply a thick coat. Leave the mask on for 15-30 minutes. You can also leave it on for more time if possible. This helps the honey to get absorbed deep into the skin. When the time is up, rinse off with lukewarm water. Do not rub or massage your face hard as you try to wash off the mask because this might trigger the production of more sebum by the oil glands (to keep your skin moisturized) which might cause more acne. After the mask is off, pat your skin gently with a soft towel. You will notice an instant glow on your skin and the red spots of acne will also have partly disappeared.

2)Honey face mask for dry skin:

•Ingredients: 1 teaspoon coconut oil
1 teaspoon raw honey

Mix the ingredients and make a paste. Wash your face with lukewarm water in order to open up your pores. Apply this paste evenly on to your face and let it stay for 20-30 minutes. Avoid applying the mask too close to your eyes and mouth area as these areas are sensitive and any unwanted stretching might cause wrinkles. When the time is up, wash and remove the mask with lukewarm water and pat your face with towel gently. A smooth moisturized skin is instantly visible.

3)Honey face mask for acne scars and spots:

•Ingredients: 1 teaspoon orange peel powder
½ teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon raw honey

Mix these ingredients in a mixing bowl. Apply evenly on to your face. Do not be harsh while applying the mask. Rubbing might lead the skin to become red and leave unpleasant rashes. Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes. Lemon helps fight acne bacteria and helps fade scars and spots. When the time is up, wash off the mask with lukewarm water. Pat the face with a soft towel and spray cold water in order to close the pores.

Apart from these face masks; honey can also be used to your face. The idea might appear a little strange as honey can be sticky and unpleasant to put on and take off, but the richness that honey contains, makes it one of the most beneficial skin care products. It is a gentle cleanser and heals your skin of unwanted spots. It can used raw to wash the face but in case, you are looking for a face wash that would, apart from cleansing your face, also help moisturize it, it can be combined with jojoba oil and used as a face wash.

1.Apply raw honey to your face with clean fingers. Apply a thick, even paste. You could pot to leave this on for a few minutes but if in a hurry, you can wash it off immediately with lukewarm water. Do not run extensively wile applying and washing it off and that might trigger more oil to release from the oil glands and may result into more acne.
2.After the honey is off, pat you skin dry with a towel and apply jojoba oil for moisturizing purposes. Put two or three drops on your fingers and gently massage it on your face.
3.Do not use more than 3-4 drops as that could lead to stickiness.

It should be noted that honey, by itself, does not help remove makeup, therefore in order to remove makeup, jojoba oil should be used along with honey. Take a few drop of the oil on your palm and pour in a teaspoon of honey. Mix gently and instantly apply on to your face. This helps remove the makeup, keep your face moisturized and retains and add glow to your face.

Here’s to a healthy skin and a glowing complexion.
