“Dance Moms” Star Abby Lee Miller Shared a Selfie From Her Hospital Bed

Abby Lee Miller is thanking fans for their support after she underwent emergency spinal surgery last week.

Last Tuesday, she experienced “excruciating neck pain” and weakness in her arm, leading doctors to make the quick decision to operate and relieve pressure on her spinal cord. They originally thought she was suffering from a spinal infection, but she has since been diagnosed with a form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma called Burkitt lymphoma. Though she is recovering, Dr. Hooman M. Melamed, who performed Miller’s surgery, told PEOPLE that she’s “not out of the woods yet.”

He said that her health is looking good, and she has a lot more movement in her arms, legs and toes, which is a “very good sign.”

“We’re getting an oncologist involved and we have to figure out what the next steps are as far as chemotherapy or radiation or more spine surgery,” Melamed previously told PEOPLE. “Depending on the tumor type, depending on the sensitivity of the tumor – it just depends on the type but I feel more than yes, she will undergo chemotherapy or radiation.”

Fans sent messages of support to Miller, with many commenting on the Instagram post. “Praying for your full recovery! :)” wrote one user. “Omg I just found out what happened … I’m sorry you are going through this! You need to be strong and never give up! We support you!” wrote another.

One of her supporters is former Dance Moms star JoJo Siwa, who told Access Hollywood that she visited Miller in the hospital.

“It’s really sad what’s going on … you don’t want anyone to go through that,” she said. “She’s nice and she’s loving and it’s hard to see her go through that.”

Miller was best known for starring on Lifetime’s Dance Moms, as a director, dance instructor, and owner of Abby Lee Dance Company.

In 2017, she was convicted of bankruptcy fraud and ordered to serve one year and one day in prison. On March 27, 2018, she was released from prison and transferred to a halfway house in Long Beach, California to complete her sentence.

According to PEOPLE, Miller will return to the halfway house once she is released from the hospital.
