Audrey Roloff Reveals She Has Mono and Fans Are Worried About Her Baby

Being a new mom is hard enough already, but being a new mom and feeling under the weather? As Audrey Roloff is unfortunately discovering, that’s a whole new level of difficult.

On Tuesday, the 26-year-old revealed on her Instagram stories that she had to visit Urgent Care after feeling extremely ill the past few days.

“I’ve felt like I’m dying … extreme fatigue, body aches, sore throat, fever, abdominal pain,” Audrey wrote on her first Instagram story slide.

After doctors made her do a blood test, it was clear that her suffering was due to a classic case of infectious mononucleosis (mono).

Aside from updating her Instagram Stories, she also shared a photo of Ember along with a caption fully explaining her current health situation.

“I thought it was just from stress of working on the edits for our book, getting ready to travel out of town for a work trip, and Ember waking up in the night to nurse (which has been happening for the past 3 weeks … teething),” she said about her symptoms. “But that’s not all.”

Audrey went on to explain that her physician told her that it was the “first time he had ever seen a breastfeeding mom test positive for mono.” She then voiced concerns for her family after being instructed to rest as much as she can for four to eight weeks:

MOMS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO GET MONO 🙅Praying I don’t pass it to Ember or Jeremy and that it passes over me quickly🙏🏻 At least I have the cutest baby girl ever to cheer me up.😊 I mean look at that face on the 4th photo?! 😭

Ugh, poor Audrey. Like the reality star, many of her fans wrote in the comments on her post how worried they were about her and her family — especially 9-month-old Ember — being exposed to the “kissing disease.” While the idea of a baby getting mono definitely sounds scary, experts say it’s rare for infants like Ember to catch a case of mono.

“Classic ‘mono’ often entails high fever, severe sore throat, swollen lymph glands, and an enlarged spleen. This presentation is extremely rare in infants who generally have few, if any, symptoms with infection,” Dr. Mary Anne Jackson, who serves on the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Infectious Diseases, tells GoodHousekeeping.com. “In fact, half of children by age five have antibodies to mono.”

Besides, Jackson says that, as is the case with many viruses, Audrey most likely had contact with Ember while infected before the virus was known, so there may be little benefit to being extra cautious now. As Audrey’s doctor mentioned, getting as much sleep as possible is her best bet right now.

Of course when you’re a new mom, taking sick days is a pretty difficult thing to do. Still, we’re sure her hubby Jeremy will help out as much as he can while Audrey tries to get the much-needed rest that’s recommended. Here’s to hoping she’s feeling better really, really soon!
