The typical definition of the term Acting is – “The art or occupation of performing fictional roles in plays, films or television.” But we all know that our great Bollywood defies this meaning with a lot of masala, unnecessarily loud and meaningless films one after another every year. Yes, entertainment is really necessary to get the audience to the theater but a film can be meaningful and entertaining at the same time also and some actors have proved it time to time with their amazing performances. This film making has just become money game today. Just put Salman or Shahrukh in your film and add a catchy song of Yo Yo Honey Singh and the theaters will get overcrowded breaking all the previous records of collections. But the thing is that these actors have worked so long in the industry that the scope of judging them is too narrow. No matter what type of film they act in, their die hard fans will come to the theaters. These are the stars that take away awards for Best Actors or Best Villains etc in each and every film award events even if the film they are getting award for, does not make any sense at all. Here is a list of Actors who really deserve better recognition than this for their amazing and heart touching acting.
1. Irfan Khan
Yes, he has done some horrible films lately but it doesn’t bring his acting skills to any lower level. His performances in movies like The Lunchbox, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, D-Day, Paan Singh Tomar, Rog, Maqbool and Haasil are so intense and perfect that we can’t help but love him more and more. He has won three Filmfare Awards and National Award for his fabulous performance in Paan Singh Tomar. He also received Padma Shri Award in 2011 which is the 4th highest civilian award of India. But still he is overshadowed by those funky and Hulk like stars who don’t know an inch of acting. Irfan has also worked in international movies like The Namesake, Life of Pi, Slumdog Millionaire and The Amazing Spider Man. This man truly deserves to sit on the throne of best actor of Bollywood but still he is ignored by many of good directors and producers. Still he manages to show new sides of his acting and give some good movies.
2. Nawazuddin Siddiqui
Do you remember the pickpocketeer from the film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., yes, he is Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He is again one of the late entrance in Bollywood like Irfan Khan and Boman Irani but still he managed to give some outstanding performances in his journey as an actor. He has not done any mainstream role in any movie except Gangs of Wasseypur 2 but with his every little role he has shown his great potential as an actor. Who can forget his fantastic work in movies like New York, The Lunchbox, Gangs of Wasseypur 2, Kahani, Peepli Live, Black Friday and Talaash. He always receives favorable comments from critics for all of his films but not yet as popular as he should be because of his looks and average body. He is an actor with no celebrity father influence or cinema background and has achieved everything on his own. He has received awards like Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor and Stardust Award for Best Supporting Actor.
3. Kay Kay Menon
He has worked in more than 30 films in his career but despite of his excellent acting skills, he still plays supporting roles in most of his films. He was first noticed by critics in the film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and then he gave some standout performances in movies like Black Friday, Life in a… Metro, The Stoneman Murders, Shourya and ABCD: Anybody Can Dance. He can be said a star of low budget films but if you look at his graph, very little number of his movies were uninteresting and meaningless. He is also from not from filmy background and has achieved everything by his own efforts. Starting his career with TV Show Pradhan Mantri to his latest film Ankur Arora Murder Case, he has shown that he deserves more attention than he usually gets. He has received only a single nomination till date for Filmfare Best Villain Award for Sarkar in 2007.
4. Manoj Bajpai
Anytime and unarguably, he is simply a great actor. He is a big powerhouse of talent and his recent film Special 26 was truly another showcase of his amazing talent. He has been working in the film industry since 1996 but still he is struggling to be a settled actor. His small role in his debut film Dastak was very catchy and then he got his first big break in the 1998 film Satya. His character Bhikhu Mhatre became so popular that you could see kids imitating him on the streets everywhere. His other notable films include Daud, Dil pe Mat le Yaar, Road, Pinjar, Veer Zaara, Gangs of Wasseypur and Special 26. He received much deserving National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for Satya and National Film Award Special Jury Award for his 2003 film Pinjar. His upcoming films include Anjaan, Traffic and Tevar and we hope that this one of the most underrated actors of Bollywood gets the true recognition that he deserves.
