3 American Sweet Corn Recipes


American sweet corn is one of those ingredients which gives the food a sweet taste, which we all love. The best part about this ingredient is that it is easily available in the market and can be added to almost all kinds of cuisine and it would never taste out of place. Sweet corn is a well-loved ingredient not only by the cooks, but also by kids and aged people. When one is lost as to what to put in a recipe one puts sweet corn in it. But the recipes that are given below, are rare recipes which will bring out the true sweetness and the crispiness of the American sweet corn, which it is famous for.

1 Corn Au Gratin:

Corn Au Gratin, is a continental dish which showcases a perfect blend of different tastes. The corn adds a sweet taste to the bland and not so loved vegetables. The cheese and the corn compliment each other extremely well, giving a melt in the mouth experience.



400g sweet corn

200g mixed vegetable like carrots, French beans, mushrooms and green peas.

50ml milk

2 ½ cup white sauce (recipe given below)

½ cup grated cheese

30g butter

Salt and Pepper to Taste

White Sauce:

3tbsp butter

3tbsp flour

3cups milk

½ cup cheese

Salt and Pepper to Taste


1 Sauté the vegetables in the 30g of butter and stir it till done.

2 Mix the vegetables, sweet corn and white sauce and adjust seasoning.

3 Add the milk and mix well.

4 Pour the mixture into an oven-proof, glass baking dish.

5 Grate cheese on top of it.

6 Bake in a hot oven at 200degree Celsius, till done.

7 Serve hot with Garlic Bread.

For the White Sauce:

1 Melt butter in a pan.

2 Add the flour.

3 Cook on low heat for 2 to 3 minutes.

4 Be careful that the change in colour of the flour is not extreme.

5 Put off the heat and add the cold milk.

6 Stir it continuously while adding the milk, in order to avoid lumps.

7 Put the pan back on the fire and cook till the sauce boil and becomes thick. Continue to stir it, to avoid lumps.

8 Add salt, pepper and cheese to it.

9 Cook for 2 minutes

Serves: 4

2 Sweet Corn Salad:

For all the Salad lovers know the sweet taste which corn adds to the rather bland salad. Well here is a salad which brings out the perfect taste of the corn. The chili adds zing to the salad. It is a very simple to make salad, where all the ingredients are tossed together with the simple dressing of lemon and mustard powder. You can also add vegetables of your choice to this salad. For the vegetarians, the chicken can be substituted with cottage cheese or paneer.



400g sweet corn

200g boneless chicken, cut into cubes

Juice of 1 lemon

2 stick celery, chopped

3 slices pineapple, chopped

1 capsicum, chopped

1 inch ginger, julienned

2-3 spring onions, chopped finely

2 green chilies, chopped very finely

½ tsp mustard powder

A few sprigs of parsley

Salt to taste


1 Cook the chicken with salt, pepper and enough water till done and dry.

2 In a bowl mix the chicken, sweet corn, spring onion, celery, green chilies and pineapple.

3 Add salt, mustard powder and lemon juice.

4 Mix well.

5 Pour into a salad bowl.

6 Garnish with sprigs of parsley

7 Serve Cold.

3 Sweet Corn Kofta Curry:

paneer_koftaThis recipe is for those who love Indian Cuisine. In Sweet Corn Kofta Curry, the corn adds bite to the smooth kofta.


For the Koftas:

400g sweet corn

2 large size potatoes

2 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped finely

2tsp chaat masala powder

4cm ginger chopped finely

4-6 green chilies, chopped finely

Salt to Taste

Oil for frying.

For the Gravy:

3 large onions, sliced finely

4 tomatoes, blanched and peeled and chopped finely

1tsp chili powder

1tsp garam masala powder

1 tsp cumin seeds

½ tsp turmeric powder

100g cashew nuts

50g grated coconut

3tbsp oil

Salt to taste


For the Koftas:

1 Boil, peel and mash the potatoes.

2 Add all the other ingredients of the koftas, except oil.

3 Mix well.

4 Divide the mixture and roll into lemon-sized balls.

5 Heat and deep fry the koftas till done.

6 Remove from oil and keep it aside.

For the Gravy:

1 Fry the thinly sliced onions till golden brown.

2 Grind the golden brown onions

3 Grind the cashew nuts and coconut to a paste.

4 Heat 2tbsp oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds.

5 Add the onion paste and sauté for 10 seconds.

6 Add the cashew coconut paste to the onion paste and sauté for 2 minutes.

7 Grind the tomatoes and add to the onion, cashew and coconut mixture.

8 Add salt, chili powder and turmeric powder and garam masala powder

9 Sauté till the oil floats on top.

10 Add one cup of boiled water to make a thick gravy.

11 Bring the mixture to a boil.

12 Let it simmer for around 5 minutes.

13. Just before serving add the fried koftas.

Note: If the koftas break while frying, add some fresh bread crumbs or corn flour to the potato-corn mixture.
