25 Cute Hairstyles for Round Faces

As much as we love the idea of a complete before/after makeover and the transformative power that comes with a brand new cut, there’s still that 50/50 chance it could go very, very wrong. But it doesn’t have to be a leap of faith every time you pay a visit to the salon—especially when you know which hairstyles are best suited for your face shape.

If yours is round (your celebrity doppelgangers include Chrissy Teigen, Priyanka Chopra, Miranda Kerr, and Gabrielle Union), the goal is to lengthen and to add definition, which Matrix celebrity hair stylist George Papanikolas says can be achieved with layers (for more structure), a middle part (to create symmetry), and the right styling (either long flowing hair or a top knot for a lengthening effect—and not slicked-back ponytails).

“Long hair is more flattering on this face shape,” Papanikolas says, but it varies by texture. “Straight hair and soft face-framing layers also lengthens the face, giving the illusion of an oval shape. If you have wavy hair, try to wear it flatter on top with more waves below the chin.”Avoid bobs and blunt bangs (ask for heavy, side-swept fringes, instead), because they will only make you look rounder. For a guaranteed “after” look that you’ll love, click through for round face-flattering styles from your favorite stars.

Chrissy Teigen

Selena Gomez

Styling tip: For an updo, leave face-framing strands out to create the illusion of length.

Gabrielle Union

Union’s long braids and middle part instantly add dimension and length.

Gemma Chan

With her ultra-gentle waves and slightly off-center part, Chan’s look is just plain pretty.

Sarah Hyland

Try it with a side part for a touch of drama.

Drew Barrymore

A middle part adds symmetry, and when combined with layers, the result is, as Barrymore proves, just so, so good.

Ginnifer Goodwin

Side-swept bangs give Goodwin’s pixie a dose of edge.

But when done in defined curls, like King’s, it softens her overall look.

Priyanka Chopra

Chopra goes super sleek with a deep side part and long layers.

Miranda Kerr

The supermodel-approved way to do waves: Straight at the top and curls that start from the chin down.

Beyoncé

As also seen on Queen Bey.

Cameron Diaz

Diaz’s tried-and-true hairstyle—long, layered, with a hint of a curl—is her signature for a reason.

Mindy Kaling

Long pin-straight strands: the surefire way to elongate your look.

Kate Upton

Tease out volume in an updo to add length to your look.

Constance Wu

Eschew blunt cuts for a soft, shoulder-grazing style. And for a special affair, finish your look with a stunning clip.

Jodie Comer

The Killing Eve star makes the case for long, angelic layers.

America Ferrera

But a deep side part brings volume and interest.

Emma Stone

Especially when done in perfectly tousled waves.

Gigi Hadid

A top knot—or in Hadid’s case, a tall, elaborate chignon—delivers height.

Michelle Williams

Blunt bangs accentuate round features, but a side-swept fringe distracts.

Kirsten Dunst

Channel Old Hollywood glamour like Dunst with immaculate waves.

Isla Fisher

Lightly curled ends draw attention from full cheeks.

Mandy Moore

Piece-y strands add sharp angles, which help contour features.

Kaley Cuoco

Cuoco’s long, airy bangs perfectly frame her face.

Leighton Meester

Meester’s piece-y lob achieves two things: structure and definition.
